The Cumbrian Fine Art & Antiques Fair to be held at The Rheged Centre, Penrith from 16th - 18th May 2008 is an ideal place to pick up that special item. Within this beautiful setting, 30 exhibitors are ready to do business and, as dealers come from all over Britain, there is friendly competition when it comes to price, with items ranging from £25 to in excess of £100,000.
The Rheged Centre has so much to offer with spectacular views over the countryside. This fabulous Centre is the largest grass covered building in Europe and boasts three restaurants, bar, visitor centre and specialist shops.
Visitors to this stunning event will have the opportunity to browse amongst a superb selection of antiques and fine art from across Britain and Europe. These specialities include 17th and 18th Century furniture, silver, Persian rugs, interesting jewellery from Victorian, Edwardian and Art Deco periods, English and European ceramics, oils, watercolours, drawings, original prints, glass, lamps, mirrors and lots lots more - a real Aladdin's cave!
Highlights include Peter Barham from Northamptonshire who will be exhibiting some important works by an artist most closely associated with Andy Warhol - Petro Psaier - a supreme talent who was instrumental in the development of much of Warhol's work. Psaier was commissioned by many famous stars from the music and film business throughout the 1970s to produce statement pieces for their lavish mansions. Works were produced for Keith Moon, Oliver Reed and Michael Caine to name but a few. Psaier was voted New York Artist of the Year in 1973 and in 1974 became the second youngest artist to be award the Italian-American Institute of Art 56th Annual Award - a prize given for inspiration to artistic peers.
Making his debut at a Bailey Fair will be Brian MacDonald from Gloucestershire, a dealer and consultant in antique tribal rugs and decorative carpets. Brian lived and worked in Iran from 1972 to 1977, spending the best part of a year of this time with two tribal groups, the Afshar of Kerman and the Qashqa'i of Fars. He is one of few world dealers to have spent time 'in the field'. Brian has been a lecturer on Eastern carpets for NADFAS (National Association of Decorative and Fine Arts Societies) since 1986. In 1990, he was elected a Fellow of the Royal Geographical Society for his work amongst the Persian tribes. His book "Tribal Rugs: Treasures of the Black Tent" was published in 1997 and acclaimed as 'one of the finest books written on tribal rugs' (Ghereh International Carpet & Textile Review).
If it's a beautiful piece of jewellery you are looking for then you will be sure to find it at this event. We have exhibitors travelling from London, North Wales and Lancashire to exhibit their stunning pieces for the Cumbrian visitors.
Whether browsing or buy, the fair will not only be an interesting day out but may also be a wonderful opportunity to make a sound investment.
